MALAYSIAN SUPER SERIES (MSS) 2008

Boy Wong Gets Help From Rival For Malaysian Super Series

Desperate to pen himself as the first double winner of the Malaysian Super Series, Boy Wong Yew Choong has turned to his main rival Harry Chai for help in his keeping his dreams alive this weekend at the A1GP Malaysia 2008 in Sepang

Harry, second to Boy in the Supersixteen Championship last year, is skipping the final round to lend his Honda EK9 race machine for Boy, who is without a race car for this weekend?s race.

Until yesterday, Boy was still without a race car and when contacted yesterday, he said that it was a wait and see situation; and that he could not confirm anything as yet.

"Harry Chai saves me - I must thank him. I was in desperate need for a race car and finally, Harry and the S&D Motorsports have agreed to lend their car - Harry Chai will not be racing this round," said Boy, who encountered this strange problem after his Type R Racing Team was dismantled after their disastrous outing at the 2008 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race.

With a total haul of 110 points and a 29-point advantage over his closest rival Ramesh Subramaniam, Boy, who had already secured this season's sub-2000cc Supersaloon title, would need at least 11 points to take his third consecutive Supersixteen title if Ramesh wins both races this weekend.

Winner of three of the previous four rounds, Boy said that Ramesh was highly capable of a double win and that he could not take any chances in hoping that his rival did not score enough points to beat him.

"So, my friends and I scouted for suitable race cars and finally Harry Chai came to the rescue. He was also not too keen of racing this race - his results has not been too good this season," said Boy in reference to Harry's nightmarish 2008 season.

Seen as Boy's main rival at the start of the season, Harry started strongly to come second behind Boy in the opening round in April. His luck changed for the following rounds as he failed to score a single point for Round 2, 3 and 4; leaving him in 10th place with 30 points.

Met at the circuit today, Ramesh declined to comment on his strategies for the race; except that it would be very difficult to deny Boy the hattrick; adding that he had always been the fastest driver in the battle of the 1600cc machines.

There would be a maximum of 40 points for grabs - 20 each for Race 1 tomorrow and 20 for Race 2 on Sunday, and the Supersixteen races would be run together with the Supercar and Supersaloon cars; making them crowded and tight races. .

Launched in 2002, the MSS is Malaysia's national championship for track racing and Boy would be the most successful racer of the series if he secures the Supersixteen title this year.

For the Supercar Championship, Wira Dani Daim has 127 points after four rounds and a 20-points advantage over second-placed Singaporean Mok Weng Sun, who would be boosted by his sensational victory at this year's MME.

Defending champion Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri Lanka, who is also bidding to win his third successive Supercar Championship, is third with 105 points and remains a serious threat to Wira Dani's championship ambitions.

Unlike the previous rounds, the three championships - Supercar, Supersaloon and Supersixteen Championship - will run together at the A1GP and using the full 5.543-km Sepang track.

The A1GP Malaysia race is promoted by Carbon Worldwide, which is also responsible for all the commercial arrangements for the event. SIC is responsible for the race management of the main race as well as the support races.
